In the books, Harry is quite an awesome guy... He's good-looking, famous, rich, got good friends... He's also got a miserable past, which draws the crowds, and he's willing to sacrifice himself so that everyone else can live, whether life turns to hell or not while he's gone. Well, in the movies, the same can't be said. He's got a bunch of lines that make him seem like the title: instead of Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, (nice ring and everything) it turns out looking like Harry Potter, the Stuck-Up Bitch which is not only offensive, but unattractive. How can he have this awful name? One of the most beloved story characters of all time? It comes down to script. There are PLENTY of lines in Deathly Hallows Part 2 ALONE to make him seem like his 'new' title. It's been evident for the past few movies already that his lines are giving him this appearance. Here are a few examples: "I didn't want you all to die for me." - DH2Well, what if they didn't die for you? Is that the only way you can think of it? Maybe they died trying to make the world a better, safer place! Did you think of that? Sure, it's easier to use that line, but still... The part where Harry uses Sectumsempra and then plays the 'sad music' - HBPOkay, this is ridiculous. Sure, you have to feel sorry for Harry, because he used it unknowingly, but the sad music is ridiculous. If you can point out another part like that (I'm having mind block) feel free to add it in the same form as the ones above. Note that we are not criticizing the book Harry, we're getting at the movie Harry.

Haha, lol. Thank god you posted this or I would and probably get banned. xD
The part where Harry uses Sectumsepra is dumb. He used a magical unknown spell on a boy who was crying because his life got turned upside down. A magical unknown spell? It looked like Harry just wanted to kill Draco, man. D:

I know! That's what I mean! They were like all-out dueling in there! There are a few other parts, I'm still trying to remember... You got anything else? OH WAIT... Ugh. I forgot it again. I hate mind block. Oh well. When I watch (insert Harry Potter movie title here) again, I'm going to take notes.

Yeah. I actually feel sorry for Draco now.
He almost got his friends expelled on several points, without telling them to just go back to Hogwarts... like when Hagrid tells Harry to meet him at midnight, Harry proceeds to randomly take Ron and Hermione.

I agree. He's just like, "I'm so awesome that I'm just gonna go and take my friends and have them risk a lot just because I'm so awesome." That just showed the beginning of the bitchy-ness as it was even evident in Sorcerer's Stone (although, most of the time, they were just tagging along at those early stages). Quite frankly, because they tagged along, movie-Harry could very well have taken that as a sign of respect and power. And together they were not good for his system. Talking about and criticizing something at the same time is quite fun! Let's do this more often! ;D

I know right, let's debate! xD
But seriously, he goes and tells Ron to get out in DH even though the locket possessed Ron. If that was my best friend, I would take the locket off him and calm him down, man. Not say "Fine! Go then! I don't need you!"

I know! Jeez, when you don't think about it you can think of more. And you can think of more than I can, apparently. And on top of that, he's back-stabbing too because in the dance scene in DH1, he let Hermione cheat on Ron and he cheated on Ginny, and neither of the Weasleys knew what happened. This is just technical, and yes, I know they were trying to have fun, but... play Scrabble or something! Or, at least for Hermione's amusement, whack Harry on the head with newspapers or something (only saying this because TheChosenOne has been whacked with newspapers repeatedly)!

LOL. But I must admit, that dance scene was quite cute. :3

It was cute, but it's still cheating! I mean, sure, I might be taking it too far, but... seriously.

I think you took it too far. He wanted to cheer up Hermione so she forgot about Ron for the moment and had some fun.

You have a point, I guess. But if you look at it in the right light, you see his inner-bitch shine through. Or... I'm not sure if bitchy-ness would shine...? LOL

He's Harry Potter, he's allowed to be a bitch lol. But yeah book Harry is much better than movie Harry, you can see him as more of a hero, but alos I think because you are in his mind so it's easier to interpret why he does things

God, after about Goblet of Fire, Harry started irking me to the point where I sort of wished he did[/i] die. It wasn't just the films for me. I felt he was worse in the books in some cases. Like with Seamus in Order of the Phoenix. He was a total dick to him, even after he apologised.
By the Deathly Hallows, I was actually pulling for Voldemort to win in the end, at least he didn't become a diva midway through the series.

An important thing to remember is that the forms of media of books and film are completely different and the subtitles of Harry's character are unfortunately lost thanks to these differences in media. I feel, with Harry's character, a lot of his inner monologue tells a lot about him in contrast to what we have to outwardly know about Harry's character. When you think about it, Harry's isn't exceptionally intelligent in the way that can be observed from Hermione, funny like Ron, or (if we dare to extrapolate) good looking, as he only gained a lot of interest from girls after it was revealed Voldemort had really returned. The traits he does have (loyalty, determination)--especially his leadership skills--are a lot more subtle and harder to translate in a light on film that seems positive, in contrast to the books.
I think, really, the trio's characterization in the movies could use a lot of work. I could rant for hours about how Hermione's importance was bumped up and Ron's was downplayed, but yes, Harry's characterization can come across as more 'bratty' because we don't have the text right in front of us saying what he was thinking, what he was feeling, and we have to tell from expression, what is verbally said, what have you.
Of course, sometimes the sympathy we have to have with Harry's character is bludgeoned into our head to death. A movie, unfortunately (or as WB seems to think) needs to be simpler in scheme, and it's difficult to keep a good line of what is right and what is wrong for Harry, instead we need to follow a line of what is 'completely right'.
One thing that particularly bothered me was in the movies, in Half-Blood Prince, when Hermione is talking to him about Romilda Vane and how she's trying to slip him a love potion. The grin he has in that scene, and the way he says 'I am the Chosen One' is probably one of the most out of character things Harry has done in the entire series, and probably the only thing that Harry has done that bothered me greatly.

I actually like that Hermione's importance was made greater in the films. I think she was a brilliant character, who was portrayed almost as brilliantly [sans that line Yates added with her saying that they could give up and stay in the woods and grow old together]. She's one of my favourite characters, easily.
I can't even begin with Ron in the films, I dislike the character so much.
