I actually like that Hermione's importance was made greater in the films. I think she was a brilliant character, who was portrayed almost as brilliantly [sans that line Yates added with her saying that they could give up and stay in the woods and grow old together]. She's one of my favourite characters, easily. I can't even begin with Ron in the films, I dislike the character so much. Hermione's importance in the films was upgraded at a great sacrifice: the character or Ron was turned into nothing more than the meaningless, humor driven sidekick while Hermione's usually tense characterization was given a more loose, free interpretation. In movie three, Hermione says 'If you're going to kill Harry you're going to have to kill us too', this isn't her line, this is Ron's line, which he says while forcing himself up with a broken leg. Later on, Hermione and Harry laugh at Ron about being confused over what occurred using the time turner sequence. Hermione never laughed about this in the books, and she and Harry explained it to him quite calmly. In Goblet of Fire, the romantic tension between Harry and Hermione was upgraded while the tension between Ron and Hermione was left as a mediocre sideplot. It's Harry who reacts in amazement over Hermione's appearance, we never see much from Ron besides being a jerk--while true to his character, yes, we also don't get much of a hint of Ron's actual feelings for Hermione, which most can argue were around by then. Hermione's amusement over Ron asking Fleur out to the Yule Ball, and her saying yes, is another uncharacteristic thing for Hermione that makes her appear to be nearly perfect under the designs of the script writer. Ron, again, was the character in Half-Blood Prince at Dumbledore's funeral that said 'We'll be there, Harry.' It wasn't Hermione, who approached Harry in the astronomy tower, stood there next to him, while Ron hanged back. I'm sorry, I love the character of Hermione, but Ron's characterization deserved better. I do admit that in the last two movies they finally seemed to give him justice--but not quite what I was hoping for in redeeming Ron's character.

I just love the title of this and how true it is. My friend who's not really into the series watched the last movie and (thankfully!) she actually wants to get into the series but she did not like Harry at all because she thought he was just...really stuck up. She did enjoy Hermione and Ron's characters. I had to explain if she loved Ron in the movie, she'd adore him in the book!

I agree, Mart. It is a bit easier when you can see in his mind. I KNOW, Goldfang! That was about the point (in the books he was still fine) that movie-Harry started degrading, etc., to where he is in DH2 (my favorite in terms of story; least favorite in terms of characters). Beforehand he was... fine, in the movies. There were some parts that annoyed me, but few and far between. Hermione IS my favorite character, easily. Harry and Snape are up there too, of course. Maybe Snape is tied with her? I don't really know. And her lines are always in-character, and even when she's doing something non-canon in the movies, she does what you'd expect her too. So does Ron. Harry had the weird lines, however. The ones I didn't like. I know and agree, appingo. It is always a bit harder for things to get into movies, because a) they don't have an infinite budget, b) they don't have perfect actors, and c) you can't have in-your-head dialogue (usually ends up bad when you do it). The movie-Trio could use work, I agree, because they seem unbalanced, to say the least. Yes, Harry gets over-sympathied at some points during the films. And I agree, the 'I am the Chosen One' line bothered me as well.

I know! Jeez, when you don't think about it you can think of more. And you can think of more than I can, apparently. And on top of that, he's back-stabbing too because in the dance scene in DH1, he let Hermione cheat on Ron and he cheated on Ginny, and neither of the Weasleys knew what happened. This is just technical, and yes, I know they were trying to have fun, but... play Scrabble or something! Or, at least for Hermione's amusement, whack Harry on the head with newspapers or something (only saying this because TheChosenOne has been whacked with newspapers repeatedly)! he let Hermione cheat on Ron? They were never together at that point. Also dancing with your friend isn't some intimate couples-only thing. People go to Prom as friends all the time, just like Harry and Parvati or the other twin, and Hermione and Krum. Harry wasn't cheating on Hermione, they were just dancing, and he was trying to cheer her up.

One thing that particularly bothered me was in the movies, in Half-Blood Prince, when Hermione is talking to him about Romilda Vane and how she's trying to slip him a love potion. The grin he has in that scene, and the way he says 'I am the Chosen One' is probably one of the most out of character things Harry has done in the entire series, and probably the only thing that Harry has done that bothered me greatly. Why do you think I have been getting hit with newspapers by Hermione? To prove a point. Anyway, book Harry IS a lot better then movie Harry, but still... You can't completely hate movie Harry. He gives up all of the Deathly Hallows except for the one passed down to him. He even gets rid of one so that the world will be a better place. Edit: Completely forgot about 2nd page. *Facepalm*

Me too. Hermione really pretty much saved Harry and Ron's life on many occasions. Ron wasn't as important, although he did save Harry from the lake and destroy the Horcrux. I would have liked him to do more in the movies, even if it was the occasional fighting and being brave. I hardly ever saw Ron duel, I only saw him "own" himself.
Edit: I forgot about the 2nd page too.

I never really liked Ron, too. It was always Hermione for me, she was my rolemodel, if you will. Only later did Ron begin to grow on me - maybe his general adorable-ness and awkwardness finally got to me. By the end of DH film, Ron and Hermione were pretty much on the same level for me. But still, a lot lower than the book trio... The films just made everyone a bit too 2D. Not being able to 'see' their thoughts really takes from the characters. Maybe that's why I'm not a huge fan of the films in general...

I forgot about the second page as well! LOL! borunks - I know. I took it a bit too far, yes. But if you look at things through extreme perspectives (I even admitted I was being extreme) things come up. SnivyCap - I know, I don't really. It's just in some places... he really irks me. Certain parts of lines, etc. SnivyDash - I agree. Movie-Hermione was Hermione + Ron's importance = movie-Hermione. Movie-Ron was Ron - Ron's importance = movie-Ron. Ron did important things, too. Hermione just stole his thunder.

Yeah I agree with you Gold I loved Hermione in the films, I love the dirty looks she gives particularly to Ron. The most Hermione thing she did in all the movies I think is when Fred and Geroge fight during GoF and everyone is cheering, she just sits down, throws her look and reads lol. Wish they had kept the scene in OotP where she threatens the twins with telling Mrs Weasly about them using their WWW products on first years.

I agree, borunks. You can't hate Hermione, really. But Hermione has been exaggerated, etc. She's got great character, but Ron had his moments, too, and his moments were taken and given to Hermione. That's the disappointing thing, really.
