So, for those of you who aren't aware, next week will be a few days filled with peak solar activity, including minor to massive solar flares.
The US government warns that there is a small, but viable possibility that these solar flares, if big enough, could disrupt or even go as far to disable world-wide communications.
Over the next few days, I will be making a series of posts/podcasts that will aide you in emergency preparation for a serious event possibility such as solar flares. Keep your ears peeled and your eyes open, ladies and gents, because in the event of a touchy situation, its good to be on your toes and prepared with information.
**Important**- this isn't meant to cause panic. On the opposite- it is meant to inform and prepare you for a possible emergency situation- or ANY emergency situation!
Any questions feel free to inbox or twitter me! (Twitter is the same as my username on here!).
Stay tuned.

More than likely, humans won't be physiologically affected. Solar storms CAN produce large amounts of radiation, but there are simple steps to avoid exposure. Explanation coming shortly.

I don't know... we all rely far too much on the Internet for it to die... if it dies, I'm going to die.

Just found this page about a week late [whoops!], and it's actually been known for a while that 2011 would be the start of this solar cycle.
Yes, it's possible that a solar flare could knock out electronics around world, maybe for months, but, as much as I'm attached to my laptop, I'd rather loose it than my life. Humanity has lived without relying on electronics before, and I'm sure we can do it again.
My main concern isn't losing my internet; it's the riots that I'm sure would happen if such a thing happened. Security and alarm systems would not work, people will panic and pandemonium will ensue. So the main thing, keep calm. Make sure you're informed and prepared, and you should be alright.
Now who's ready to go camping!?

I love camping. :3
Luckily for me, the house I'm moving into is well-built, fortified, and has lots of secrets about it. And a ginormous back yard to camp in!
